On World Reef Day, June 1, 2024
CRRI has released a video on the WWF Untangled YouTube Channel unpacking Marine Heatwaves and their effects on coral reefs around the world.
Marine heat waves have shattered records as the climate crisis accelerates. A warming ocean devastates coral reefs, along with the 850 million people who depend on them for food security and the nature-based solutions they provide – like buffering coastal communities from storms and cyclones.
The coral crisis is a climate crisis, and the fastest way to dial down marine heatwaves is to stop burning fossil fuels – like oil, gas and coal.
We are working to reduce the strain placed on coral reefs and help ensure coastal communities have the tools and resources to manage them sustainably.
